Things to AVOID the Duration of Your Tan
There are a lot of things you want to avoid during your sunless tan. Scientifically what we are doing is changing the color of your dead skin, so you want to keep your dead skin on as long as possible. Your skin regenerates every 28 days so it is impossible for your tan to last a month long, BUT sometimes they can last up to 3 weeks if you take care of your skin.
First things first-AVOID HOT SHOWERS AND BATHS. The hot water is a natural exfoliant and will take your dead skin off. I know it’s hard but try not to take any hot bubble baths or sit in any hot tubs, it will definitely lessen the life of your tan.
When going into the sun-WEAR WATERPROOF SUNSCREEN. We suggest something extremely durable like bullfrog sunscreen or any kind of sunblock lotion that is highly waterproof. The waterproof sunscreen will create a barrier between your skin and the salt water or chlorinated water. It isn’t the water that will take your tan off faster, but the salt or chlorine, those both will dry your skin out and cause regeneration of dead skin cells. If you do get sunburnt, and you peel then it will take the tanned skin off and leave you with patches, it is NOT PRETTY, so make sure you lather up with sunblock!
AVOID HIGHLY FRAGRANCED LOTION, BODY WASH, AND PERFUME ON YOUR BODY. The reason highly fragranced lotion smells so good is because it has a lot of alcohol in it and also a lot of other things that your skin doesn’t need. Chances are if it has more than 20 ingredients on the bottle, you shouldn’t be using it to moisturize with. Perfume on the other hand is basically fragrances alcohol, so if you do wear perfume we recommend spraying it on your clothing rather than your skin. If you keep spraying it on the same spot on your neck then it may dry that skin out and take your tan off faster in that area.
We hope these suggestions help you to be bronzed even longer!
