One application with airbrush tanning will be equivalent to approximately 6 tanning bed sessions, there for making it cost effective. Airbrush tanning also spares the skin of excessive wear and tear and free from potential burns and dangerous UV rays caused by tanning beds.
How do I prepare for my tanning session?
For the maximum result, before your session, shower and exfoliate the skin at least 4 hours before your tan. Make sure your skin is free of perfumes, lotions, oils, deodorants, gels or any product on the skin that would create a barrier.
What should I wear?
Attire for women is whatever you are comfortable with. Many things can be done to minimize tan lines. The key is your comfort level. Attire for men is boxers, swim trunks or shorts. Your tanning specialist will use the utmost discretion. Loose fitting clothing should be worn for leaving the facility. We have found that DHA reacts with wool, nylon, and silk. These fabrics should not be worn during or immediately following your tanning session. We also recommendthat you wear sandals instead of socks and tennis shoes.
Can an Airbrush Tan be removed?
The color produced by a sunless tanning product like ours does not wash off; it simply fades as the upper layers of the epidermis wear away. You can try to speed the exfoliation process by gently scrubbing the skin with a washcloth or loofah sponge. DO NOT OVER SCRUB! It may take a week or more for the “tanned” skin to disappear.
Is Airbrush Tanning safe?
YES! According to the American Academy of Dermatology, the most effective products available are sunless or self-tanning products that contain Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) as the active ingredient. DHA has been used in cosmetic preparations for almost 30 years and was listed with the FDA in 1973. It is declared safe and suitable for use in cosmetics and drugs used to color the skin. DHA is derived from glycerin (vegetable origin), which is a commonly used cosmetic and food ingredient.
What if a person normally can’t get very tan?
A person CAN get a sunless tan even if they can’t get a real tan. Airbrush tanning does not need a person’s melanocytes to be in working order. Dihydroxyacetone (DHA), the active ingredient in our solution, saturates the skin cells in the outermost layer of skin, where it turns the protein in the cells golden tan.
Any other benefits of using Airbrush Tans?
Fast, convenient, safe and effective. Airbrush tan today, look great tonight. Did you know that a tan physique gives you a slimmer appearance? That’s right, not to mention a very healthy glow. Get the bronzed, sexy look all of Hollywood is sporting without the harmful, aging effects of the sun. Our formula hydrates the skin and leaves it moisturized and silky.
How long after the application can I go in water or sweat?
We recommend about 12 hours. Sunless tan longevity varies from person to person and according to your lifestyle. Long exposure to water will fade your Airbrush Tan. Your outer cells will start to soak up water, which dilutes the effect of the tan. The longer you are in the water, the lighter your tan will get. Having an Airbrush Tan weekly maintenance tan allows the tan to saturate the skin better. The tan will then hold up longer in water. Be sure to moisturize every day, this helps maintain the tan.
How can I minimize exfoliation from hot tubs, swimming pools and the ocean after I get an Airbrush Tan?
After your tan has developed and after your first post-tan shower, you can minimize water activity exfoliation by liberally and frequently apply a good, strong waterproof sunscreen (such as Bullfrog, Iguana, Blue Lizard or others) before submersing yourself. These are very durable brands and can help protect your tan from fading.
Can pregnant or nursing mothers get an Airbrush Tan?
Yes! Just make sure that you inform us if you are pregnant while scheduling and if you are allergic to any lotions, etc. The concern some doctors have is over whether or not the active ingredient (DHA) is able to enter the blood stream; the indications are that it cannot. DHA only penetrates the outermost of the skin. But you SHOULD ALWAYS inform your doctor BEFORE having the Airbrush Tanning done.
Will an Airbrush Tan stain my pajamas or sheets?
Until your first post-tan shower, your Airbrush Tan will stain some fabrics (For example: nylon, silk, wool and polyester). However, a good soaking in water will usually lift the stain from the fabric. Most fabrics and materials are completely safe — if the Airbrush Tan color rubs off on any other fabric it will simply wash out. Many have reported that the Oxy cleaning products, like Clorox’s non-bleach Oxygen Action, do a great job. FYI: two commonly reported causes of the color guide coming off are both on bed sheets — sweating in the night and those who drool on their own face while they sleep. I would suggest putting dark sheets on until your first post shower!
Why do I need an exfoliator — why can’t I use a loofa or shower puff?
Using an exfoliator insures smoother softer skin for the Airbrush Tan airbrush tan application, resulting in an even and longer lasting tan. If you do not use an exfoliator, you will be tanning skin that is about to fall off and your tan will disappear more quickly. Loofas and puffs do not conform to the body and will result in an uneven exfoliation and can create a “zebra” look to your Airbrush Tan.
Should I shave before or after my Airbrush Tan application?
Shaving is a form of exfoliation so you should shave about 4-8 hours before the application. Shaving after will take off some of your tan, so shave before. After your application, be sure to use a new razor as old dull blades can mar your results.
Should I remove any deodorant?
Yes. For the best result remove deodorant and moisturize under arm. Wait 3 hours to reapply deodorant. It . may turn green when deodorant is reapplied. If so, the green will rinse off in the shower.
I like my Airbrush Tan just the way it is — how do I keep it?
Make sure you moisturize every day.
Normally I freckle in the sun… will my Airbrush Tan cause freckles?
No. Airbrush tanning solutions will not cause more freckles. In fact, in most cases, freckles and blemishes will become LESS obvious because the lighter skin areas will darken and reduce the color differential between these areas and the rest of the skin.
